Perry Library

Researchers come to life with the wealth of information and researchers here. This place houses a large computer lab, databases, journals, periodicals, publications, newspapers, desk reference materials, and encyclopedias for all your researching needs. The library is also home to many fictional adventures and the latest best sellers to feed your creative and imaginative side.

University Bookstore

The bookstore is not just for buying your textbooks anymore. This bookstore houses two floors of excitement, adventure, and information. Here you can purchase all of your University swag to show how proud you are to be a monarch. Gifts are also available so that you can send a token of gratitude to Mom and Dad for helping you attend the best school on the East Coast.

The University Bookstore also has a Starbucks Cafe so you can relax, enjoy a hot beverage , and a good read.

The University Village

The University Village is the school's resort area with restaurants, retail, recreational facilities, hotel, residential, office and research facilities.



The University Village provides indoor and outdoor dining with an eclectic collection of restaurants and casual dining establishments. Ted Constant Convocation Center

Our Lady Monarch's Basketball team has a long-standing history of dominating the Women's NCAA tournament and students can witness the sheer skill and excitement of victory here.

Built in 2002, the "The Ted" is an entertainment venue named after is donor, Theodore F. Constant, founder of the Norfolk Beverage Co.. Over the years, this venue has hosted the Tidewater Community College Commencement Ceremony, as well as other concerts, comedians, family fun shows, and more.

ODU Baseball

Named after Old Dominion's well-respected, beloved, and honorable baseball coach, Arthur Beauregard "Bud" Metheny, our Old Dominion university baseball players practice daily on this compound. ODU baseball players play nearly 60 games a season, with half of them played on our home soil. Competition is fierce and our baseball team always plays an exciting season for fans.

The Bud Metheny Complex hosts many youth baseball camps and training facilities.

Foreman Field

This is where I saw my very first concert, Foo Fighters, back in 1996. Since then, I have never looked at Foreman Field the same.

This field is currently under construction, but when it is finished, 20,000 students, alumni, parents, and supporters can join together and cheer the new Monarch football team on. Construction is scheduled to be finished at the end of this summer.

Foreman Field is about to get a $24.8 million face lift.

That's the price tag Old Dominion University put on the project Tuesday when it unveiled plans to upgrade the facility in preparation for the school's start of football in the fall of 2009.

S.B. Ballard Construction Co. of Virginia Beach, which also built Ted Constant Convocation Center, won the bid and will begin construction in December. The price tag is about $6 million less than the construction cost of the Constant Center.

Completion date is Aug. 15, 2009.

S.B. Ballard will work with Clark Nexsen Architecture and Engineering on the project, which will include something ODU officials believe is unique to Division I-AA football: a special area where the football team will host visiting high school recruits.

"I've been to the stadiums of a lot of the top-flight I-AA programs in the country and none of them have what we are about to build," ODU football coach Bobby Wilder said. "In the southeast corner of the game-day building, we will have a glassed-in room specifically designed to host recruits. It was the No. 1 thing I asked for in the design concept."

When it's completed, Foreman Field will seat about 20,000 for football, will house a visitors' locker room beneath the north end-zone stands and anchor the complex with the game-day building to which Wilder referred.

The yet unnamed game-day building will be the focal point of the project and will house 24 luxury suites with 400 loge seats and 100 mini boxes. Twelve of the boxes with have their own patios overlooking the plaza south of the complex. There will also be an 8,000-square-foot patio on the second level of the game-day building, and another 7,500-square-foot enclosed terrace will look directly out over the south end zone.

"I'm very happy to get this bid and I think this project has a lot of potential," said Steve Ballard of S.B. Ballard. "But right now, I'm about 40th on the list for one of those 24 luxury suites. I've got to figure out how I'm going to get a box."

The project will include a 727-space contiguous garage at the southwest corner of the stadium.

The current playing surface will be replaced with Astroturf GameDay Grass 3D and the field will be lowered approximately 18 inches, with the existing crown in the middle of the field to be removed.

Also, 3,000 premium seats will be installed in the existing stands, which are to undergo upgrading and structural repair under a separate contract that is expected to add about $1.4 million to the final stadium costs.

Renovation of the north end-zone stands, which will house visitors and game officials locker rooms, will also be handled under a separate contract expected to come in under $1 million.

With Foreman Field having been around since 1934, there will also be lead-based paint and asbestos abatement to deal with. That is expected to cost about $200,000.

"The S.B. Ballard proposal offered the best mix of cost and facility requirements," said Bob Fenning, ODU's vice president for administration and finance. "We had three excellent proposals from outstanding companies. My hat's off to the whole crew. It's a complicated project when you're getting a lot of input from so many different people in their wants and desires."

I Photoshopped my Old Dominion University Press Pass so I can gather information from a real-time "on-the-go," student media perspective. I am the resident geek and will attempt to make an awareness of the certain technological culture that comes with new media and my writing will cover technological innovations that can help Old Dominion University students stay connected. I will also incorporate Old Dominion University campus events and news will come in as little or as often as there is something to talk about and will be delivered to you in a lovely, Laurynized fashion. Think of it as The View, but smarter with a realistic feminine geek chick edge.

I am a graduate of Tidewater Community college where I accomplished an A.A.S. in Information Technology with an emphasis in Web Design. Recently, I started a freelance business venture where I construct websites for local entrepreneurs. My personal blog is currently moving domains, but you can currently find it at laur[y]nomaly.net.

My technical expertise landed me a local job performing technical support for a large camera corporation, which catalyzed my passion for film and digital photography. I enjoy photography of all kinds--studio/portrait photography, events, sports, and news media. I shoot with Canon equipment and print with Canon colors.

I am continuing my education at Old Dominion University and working on a Bachelor's of Science in Communications. I will have to wait until my two-year-old son is older to run my own new media publication, but I plan on establishing experience at a reputable publication until then.

I am fascinated by movies, technology, [apple] computers, geek culture, video games, photography, intellectual conversations, classical literature, politics, unique areas of feminism, and satirical approaches to mass communication.
