Ars Gratia Artis

Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center is Old Dominion University’s own concert hall and favored venue of many jazz and classical artists. Each year, Diehn hosts a concert series and has hosted renowned artists like Julie Kelly and Giora Fiedman. It is also home to ODU’s musical collections in its Composer’s Room.

The building was named after Friedrich Ludwig Diehn, a German-born expatriate who settled in Norfolk to become a modern composer. His music is internationally renowned with strong fan bases in Vienna, Munich, and Jamaica. Friedrich Ludwig Diehn died on April 16, 1995.

This March, the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Building will host the Women’s Month event, “Ain’t I a Woman!” in its Chandler Recital Hall.
